Turin (Torino), Italy is the birthplace of this solid chocolate and probably the most famous confections to come out of the Piedmontese capital is Gianduia, a luscious paste of chocolate and hazelnuts.  Gianduia has a tradition as rich as it's flavor, it was first invented in 1865 when a chocolatier blended a past of hazelnuts from the nearby Langhe hills to stretch out his cocoa, which was in short supply due to wartime blockades.  Today, Gianduia, named for the Marionette representing Torino during Carnival, is made to exacting specifications.  Valenza Chocolatier has brought this delightful treat to the States in the form of Gianduiotti (plural of Gianduia), extruded ingots of pure bliss made with 100% imported Piedmontese hazelnuts and either 41% MILK (CLASSICO) or 61% DARK (MAXIMO) single bean Venezuelan chocolate.  This Gianduiotti is truly authentic to the traditional rules from the shape, percentage of Piedmontese hazelnuts, method of forming, and finally the foil wrapping by hand.
